Basic Trauma Life Support has been renamed International Trauma Life Support

Basic Trauma Life support underwent a name change as of October of 2005.  The purpose of the name change was to better reflect the international mission of BTLS (now ITLS).  All cards and certificates issued under BTLS are still good until they expire.  Your renewal class will be ITLS and your card and certificate will reflect that.

What is International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and why do I need to take the class?

Who can take ITLS?

Any ALS or BLS provider, RN, PA, or MD would benefit from taking an ITLS course.  

How much does an ITLS course cost?

North Carolina Chapter and ITLS International Fees are currently $27.00 (combined) as of January 1, 2019.  If you take the course through a Community College, there is a course fee of appx. $70.00 (subject to change by the General Assembly) unless you are fee exempt such as a member of an EMS Service, Rescue Squad, or Fire Department.  Attendees may be charged a small fee to cover incidental expenses.  Please contact the person listed on the Course Directory to determine what fees are applicable to your course. You will also need to purchase a copy of the current edition of the book of the course you wish to take.

Where can I find a course?

Click here to to to the ITLS International Website to search for courses in your State.  Click on the "Search For a Course" link at the upper left side of the page.  Make sure your the course you are considering attending is "Open to the Public" as noted on the right column of the course listing.

How long is a certification good for?

Cards issued before January 1, 2019 are valid for 3 years.  Cards issued after January 1, 2019 are valid for 4 years.
